It is the last week of February, and with that, it also signals the final week to register for the 2024 first intake. It also makes today probably as good a day as any other to contemplate overcoming the fear of being unsuccessful. If you are still unsure about registering or furthering your studies, join us next Friday (the 8th of March 2024) for the first session of the 2024C1 Orientation Day. You can also have a look at last week’s blog by lecturer Moliehi Thupa, who wrote about her personal experiences in distance education.
In today’s post, we will look at our Monday Motivation by Paul Sweeney, ” True success is overcoming the fear of being unsuccessful.” We also look at the BMT College calendar, which consists of assignment due dates, the 2024C1 registrations closing date, next week’s orientation day, and finally, the first of our webinars starting on the 14th of March 2024.
Overcoming Fear of Success
But let’s get back to this being the last week of February. Our blog section dealt a lot with New Year’s resolutions and plans in the previous two months. How to plan, how to set goals, how to start and how to measure your progress were all topics covered by our writers. From these blogs, it becomes apparent that the most crucial part of any plan or goal is to start. Depending on what you think about your own abilities or how big the endeavour is, you may have some level of fear of being successful.
Franklin Roosevelt said that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” It is a little more complicated than that because fear does have some uses, specifically in dangerous situations. Unfortunately, it seems that our brains carry over the fight, flight or freeze responses to making life decisions that are not really life-threatening. (I have not done any research on the psychology of this, so please read more!)
Last year, those students who started their three-year diploma studies at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak graduated. The next group, those who started right in the middle with all the uncertainty in the world still filling the air like a suffocating Winter smog, will be graduating this year. The Lockdown days feel both a million years ago (and very unreal) and like they happened only yesterday.
But here we are. Those who started then are finishing now. So the question is, What are you fearing now, that is preventing you from who you should be in three years, or five years or ten years from now? What do you fear to start because you think you may be unsuccessful?
Getting motivated for the week
Today’s Monday Motivation by Paul Sweeney says, ” True success is overcoming the fear of being unsuccessful.” It may help to know that being unsuccessful in itself is a learning experience. Not that we aim to be unsuccessful because we want to learn stuff. But if you do not start something because you fear not being successful, then that is something to reflect on. I know I am repeating the quote by Arthur Ashe, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” But use it.
Start where you are.
Do what you can…and do your best!
What is happening next at BMT?

But before we get to all of that, our registered students have a couple of assignments due this week:

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, 15 March 2024. So, if you have any matter for the Academic Council, please ensure that you submit all your documentation well in advance (10 working days).
2024C1 Registrations
As mentioned in the first paragraph, registrations for the first semester will close this Friday. Please ensure that you submit your forms in advance if you are still thinking about registering and starting your studies in the first intake.
If you are still on the fence about registering, then join us for the orientation day next week. Depending on the course, you may still be allowed to register late. However, please note that acceptance is not guaranteed.
2024C1 Orientation Day
The 2024C1 Orientation Day is scheduled for next week, Friday, the 8th of March 2024. If this is your first time studying with BMT College, then you should attend the morning sessions. If it has been some time since you have studied with us or are still thinking about registering, then the morning sessions will also serve you well! Read more about the Orientation Day here.
We have sent out the programmes to all students who have registered for the first semester (2024C1). If you have not received it, then please send a request to info@bmtcollege.ac.za requesting the programme. Please quote your student or ID number in your mail. BMT College 2024 Webinar Series
On Thursday, the 14th of March 2024, we will host our first in a series of webinars over lunch.
Nathalie Tuck will join us to talk about the pivotal role of public relations in organisational success. She is an expert in her field, representing some of the largest industries in South Africa. We have a lot to learn from her. Book the date, and invite your friends, colleagues, and managers.
The first webinar is not to be missed!
Visit the webinar page for more info and the meeting link.
Heading into the week
Heading into the final week of February, make your motto that you will face your fears and get to a point where you only fear fear itself—specifically, the fear of being unsuccessful. Remember, whatever you start or don’t start now will determine who you are in a year, five years or ten years from now.
Have an awesome week, everyone!
