Course Admission Requirements
Admission requirements refer to the minimum academic or experience requirements to register for a specific course.
General
There are three ways to qualify for admission to a course.
- Meeting the academic entry requirements.
- Meeting the conditional acceptance requirements.
- Completing a Recognition of Prior learning application.

Higher Certificate
Entry requirements
The minimum admission requirement for a Higher Certificate (NQF 5) is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an endorsement for Higher Certificate admission as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) or an equivalent qualification as evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
In addition, to qualify for entry into Higher Certificate studies with BMT College:
- The candidate must have at minimum a total admission point score (APS) of 15. You need to have six senior certificate 20-credit subjects (listed in Appendix I) and the relevant certificate as shown in Table 6.1.
- The candidate must have a minimum APS of 2 for English Home Language. Furthermore, an APS of 3 for English First Additional Language (Group A in Appendix I), or equivalent as evaluated by SAQA;
- The candidate must have a minimum APS of 2 for Mathematics. In addition, an APS of 3 for Mathematical Literacy (Group A in Appendix I) or equivalent as evaluated by SAQA.
Just so you know, appropriate subject combinations are specified in the curriculum document and College prospectus where required.
Conditional Acceptance for applicants 23 years of age or older
A student may be conditionally accepted onto this programme based on mature age exemption for students who are 23 years of age or older. Please take a look at section 7 below.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
BMT College acknowledges that all learning has value. Therefore, endeavours to recognise prior learning and allow students access to the qualification following the College’s RPL Policy (QP5415). In addition, NQF level 4+ qualifications from accredited institutions may qualify for RPL admission by the College’s academic council.
Diploma
Entry Requirements
The minimum admission requirement for Diploma (NQF 6) studies is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi), with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in four recognised NSC 20-credit subjects (see Appendix I), or an equivalent qualification as evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
In addition, to qualify for entry into Diploma studies with BMT College:
- The candidate must have at minimum a total admission point score (APS) of 16 for six recognised senior certificate 20-credit subjects (see Appendix I) and hold the relevant certificate as indicated in Table 6.1;
- The candidate must have a minimum APS of 2 for English Home Language or an APS of 3 for English First Additional Language (Group A in Appendix I), or equivalent as evaluated by SAQA;
- The candidate must have a minimum APS of 2 for Mathematics or an APS of 3 for Mathematical Literacy (Group A in Appendix I) or equivalent as evaluated by SAQA.
Where required, appropriate subject combinations are specified in the curriculum document and College prospectus.
Conditional Acceptance for applicants 23 years of age or older

For instance, qualifications issued by an accredited institution at NQF level 4 or higher in a similar or relevant subject matter may be considered for RPL admission to the programme by the College’s academic council.
Advanced Diploma
Entry Requirements
BMT College acknowledges that all learning has value and therefore endeavours to recognise prior learning and allow students access to the qualification in accordance with the College’s RPL Policy (QP5415). For instance, qualifications issued by an accredited institution at NQF level 4 or higher in a similar or relevant subject matter may be considered for RPL admission to the programme by the College’s academic council.
- An appropriate Diploma in a related field: Completion of an appropriate 360-credit NQF 6 Diploma will meet the minimum entry requirement for admission to the Advanced Diploma. Furthermore, Candidates who completed an appropriate 240-credit NQF 6 Diploma may enter the Advanced Diploma upon successful completion of a work-integrated learning component or a combination of work-integrated learning and coursework equivalent to 120 credits that are approved and accredited by an education provider and a Quality Council.
- Also, an accredited bachelor’s degree (or higher)
- lastly it is possible to gain entry to this programme through a process of Recognition of Prior Learning per the College’s RPL policy (QP5415).
Advanced Diploma in Business Management
The Advanced Diploma in Business Management is ideal for middle to top managers in any business function, specifically operations, marketing, or financial management, on a pathway to executive or advanced leadership positions.
Diploma in Human Resource Management
The Diploma in Human Resource Management is ideal for aspiring human resource leaders to advance their careers to middle or top management. The programme is also perfect for human resource administrators, practitioners or persons who wish to enter the exciting field of human resource management.
